Ferry charged in Coalville case

COALVILLE – A Fort Dodge man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to break into a home in Coalville.

Tennessee A. Ferry, 20, of Fort Dodge, has been charged with second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools.

According to the criminal complaint filed against him, Ferry tried breaking into the home at 23513 Nelson Ave., Coalville. Ferry allegedly tried getting into the house through the back doors, damaging them, the door frame and the door knobs in the process.

It’s alleged Ferry used a screwdriver, which was found in his pocket, to attempt the break-in.

Ferry told the arresting deputy that he was out of fuel and was trying to get money or fuel.

He is also facing a charge of absence from custody after he allegedly failed to return to the Fort Dodge Residential Correctional Facility on Oct. 3.

Ferry was ordered held on $10,000 bond at his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Tuesday morning.

His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 31.

Godwin sentenced to five years

Chase Lane Godwin, 44, was sentenced in Webster County District Court to five years in prison for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury, a Class D felony.

On Oct. 27, 2013, Emma Kiefer, 17, was driving home after babysitting when Godwin’s vehicle broad-sided hers at the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and Webster County Road D43. Godwin’s blood alcohol level was determined to be 0.229. Kiefer was seriously injured as a result of the collision.

On Sept. 17, a jury found Godwin guilty.

Judge Thomas Bice then Godwin to serve the maximum sentence of five years in prison and to pay a $7,500 fine. Godwin was taken into custody following the sentencing proceedings and has been transferred to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale.
