Kossuth Co. alerts residents of scam

ALGONA – The Kossuth County sheriff’s office is asking residents to be wary of a scam that has been reported locally involving debit and credit card fraud.

Two reports have come in to the sheriff’s office after residents reported suspicious activity on their accounts. According to a statement from the Kossuth County sheriff’s office, those residents recently used their debit or credit cards in Fairmont, Minn.

“The Fairmont Police Department has confirmed that they were contacted by a local bank in Fairmont last Friday of suspicious activity on several different accounts,” the department said in a press release.

Unauthorized attempted transactions have been reported in other states, including Arizona, Georgia and Michigan. The source of the information breach has not yet been determined.

Kossuth County residents who have seen suspicious activity on their accounts are asked to contact both their bank and report the unauthorized use immediately.
