Three from area facing drug charges

POCAHONTAS – An early morning traffic stop just outside Pocahontas has led to three people from Webster County facing various drug charges.

On Tuesday, Pocahontas County Sheriff Bob Lampe said a deputy stopped a vehicle driven by Patrick T. McGuire, 33, of Fort Dodge, for an equipment violation.

While the deputy was speaking with McGuire, Lampe said, “it was determined that he was driving under the influence of a controlled substance.”

A search of the vehicle found two plastic baggies which contained a white powder, as well as syringes and a scale.

McGuire was charged with operating while intoxicated/drugged, second offense; possession of methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in the Pocahontas County Jail on $3,300 bond.

In addition, McGuire is also on parole from federal prison for manufacturing a controlled substance and possession of a dangerous drug, according to Lampe. More federal charges are pending and McGuire will eventually be returned to federal investigators.

Two passengers in McGuire’s vehicle are also facing charges.

Lon Swanberg, 55, of Otho, has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, second offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on $1,300 bond.

Tabatha Andrews, 28, of Duncombe, is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, third offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held on $5,300 bond.

The Pocahontas Police Department also assisted at the scene.
