Blue scholarship applications available

Applications for the 2024 Robert D. Blue Scholarship are now available, according to state Treasurer Roby Smith. Applicants must be a current senior or graduate of any Iowa high school who plans to attend a college or university within the state. Awards are based on financial need, an original essay, academic achievements and recommendations. Scholarship applications are only accepted online and must be submitted by May 10. FDFD adds three members

Three new firefighters have been hired in Fort Dodge to fill vacancies. They are: • Gavin Hills, a former volunteer firefighter from West Branch who earned an associate degree in fire science from Des Moines Area Community College • Connor Hanson, a former volunteer firefighter from Webster City who is in the emergency medical technician program at Iowa Central Community College. He is the son of police Capt. Steve Hanson. • Joe Sherman, who earned an associate degree in fire science from Iowa Central Community College and was a volunteer EMT in his hometown in Illinois.

Trash collection changes announced

Any Fort Dodge sanitation customers on the Tuesday route who did not have their trash picked up Tuesday should put it out for collection Thursday morning, according to an announcement from the city. The Thursday route garbage collection will be done on Friday.
