A Fort Dodge man is accused of getting into an occupied car, driving it away and crashing it into a house Monday night, according to court records.
Police reported that Nolan N. Olson was drunk at the time. And while no one was injured in the crash, one officer suffered a minor injury while taking Olson into custody.
Olson, 29, of 1015 Fifth Ave. N. was arrested Monday night and charged with:
• Second degree burglary
• econd degree theft
• Operating while under the influence, second offense
• Interference with official acts, bodily injury
• Failure to maintain control
• No valid driver's license
Police reported that at about 8:29 p.m. Monday in the 1400 block of First Avenue North, Olson got into the back seat of a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu in which two women were sitting in the front seat. The women immediately got out of the car, and Olson got into the driver's seat. He drove away.
Minutes later, he crashed the car into the south side of a house at 15 N. 14th St. The crash broke a gas line, prompting a response by the Fire Department and MidAmerican Energy.
Olson ran away from the crash site and was soon apprehended by police. He was booked into the Humboldt County Jail.
He made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Tuesday morning. Magistrate William H. Habhab scheduled a Sept. 25 preliminary hearing on the burglary, theft, OWI and interference charges. He postponed court action on the lesser charges of failure to maintain control and no valid drivers license for 180 days.
The magistrate issued an order barring Olson from having any contact with the two women who were in the car.
Habhab set bond for Olson at $18,000 cash only.
