‘No Kings’ rally in Fort Dodge on Saturday
On Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Fort Dodge at the corner of First Avenue South and 29th Street, a group of friends from many North Central Iowa counties will hold a “No Kings” rally to protest actions of the Trump administration.
This same group held its first “No Kings” rally on June 14. Multiple media organizations documented over 2,000 demonstrations in all 50 states, including 31 in Iowa. Independent researchers estimated that over 5 million people participated across the country.
“We estimated that we had over a hundred people at our June rally,” said Claudia Koch, a Webster County organizer.
“This is a peaceful protest to show that the majority of Americans do not want one-man rule to replace our democratic republic,” said Nedra Conrad, of Webster County, one of the organizers. “Participants are encouraged to bring a homemade sign and their belief in representative government.”
“This is a non-partisan event. People from all parties and no party are encouraged to peacefully demonstrate that one person should not rule our country like a king,” said T.C. Loving, an organizer from Humboldt County.
Over 30 “No Kings” rallies are planned for Saturday in Iowa as of Oct. 9. Some of the ones in our area include Algona, 10 a.m. to noon, corner of Highway 169 and State Street; Sac City, 2 to 3 p.m., Sac City Monument Square; and Storm Lake, 1 to 3 p.m., intersection of Lake and Lakeshore.
