More charges filed against mother in abuse case
Additional charges have been filed against a Fort Dodge mother related to the alleged abuse of her baby, according to court records.
Rebekah Prewitt, 23, of 315 Haskell St., was arrested by Fort Dodge police earlier this month and charged with 15 counts of child endangerment, bodily injury.
The Webster County Attorney’s Office recently filed additional revised charges against her. According to court records, she now stands accused of:
• 18 counts of aiding and abetting child endangerment, torture or cruelty, bodily injury
• 18 counts of aiding and abetting assault causing bodily injury or mental illness
• Three counts of aiding and abetting neglect or abandonment of a dependent person
Her bond was recently reduced from $150,000 cash only to $138,000 cash only.
The baby’s father, Austin N. Prewitt, 24, of 315 Haskell St., is charged with 18 counts of child endangerment, torture or cruelty, causing bodily injury; 18 counts of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; and three counts of neglect of a dependent person.
In criminal complaints, Fort Dodge police wrote that Austin Prewitt knowingly struck a child under 1 year of age with an object on multiple occasions between Oct. 21, 2024, and Sept. 11, 2025.
