SAC COUNTY — A crash around 7:29 a.m. on Thursday claimed the life of a Wall Lake man, according to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol.

Jeremy Fank, 57, of Carroll, was driving a 2013 Dodge Ram northbound on Union Avenue and attempted to pass a semitrailer. He saw a vehicle approaching and attempted to evade by swerving toward the west ditch. Roy Russom, 90, of Wall Lake, was driving a 2025 Toyota Camry southbound on Union Avenue. He also swerved toward the west ditch. The Dodge hit the Toyota in the driver’s side and both vehicles came to rest in the ditch.

Russom was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sac County medical examiner. The Sac County Sheriff’s Department and Lake View Police Department assisted at the scene.
