Annual sock drive has begun

The 14th Annual Socks for the Sole sock drive has begun. The community’s help is being sought to help local kids step into the school year in new socks. The Community Health Center of Fort Dodge and Shimkat Motor Co. have once again teamed up to collect new socks to give to kids before the start of the school year. Sock donations for preschoolers through high school age kids are currently being accepted at Shimat Motor Co in their show room located at 2126 Fifth Ave. S.

“Shimkat collects the socks and matches the community’s donations” says Regina Suhrbier, Outreach Coordinator at Community Health Center “we then sort and distribute the socks to kids in need of them”

This year the socks will be passed out on Aug. 6 at the Back-to-School Block Party hosted by Community Health Center of Fort Dodge and Upper Des Moines Opportunity. The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public. It will be held in the parking lot behind Community Health Center of Fort Dodge, 126 N. 10th St.

White and black crew and ankle socks are the most needed in youth small, medium and large, but donations of any sock color are accepted. The socks help children in the community who do not have the luxury of fresh new socks for the school year.

Donations are being accepted through Aug. 2.

Starting at $2.99/week.
