WEBSTER CITY -- Auditions for the next Webster City Community Theatre production, "The Diary of Anne Frank," will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, and 6 p.m. Monday.
Roles are available for two teenage girls, one teenage boy, three adult women and four adult men.
"The Diary of Anne Frank" features a diverse cast of characters navigating the challenges of hiding from the Nazis during World War II. Anne Frank, the central figure, is a spirited and articulate Jewish teenager who documents her experiences in her diary. Her family includes her father, Otto Frank, her mother, Edith Frank, and her sister, Margot. Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, along with their son Peter, share the hiding place. Dr. Dussel, a dentist, also joins the group, adding another layer of complexity to their confined living situation.
Miep Gies and Mr. Krahler play crucial roles as non-Jewish helpers. Gies assists the hidden families by providing food and supplies, while Mr. Krahler aids in maintaining the secret annex. The plot revolves around the daily struggles, fears, and hopes of these characters as they try to maintain their humanity in the face of constant danger. Tensions rise, relationships are tested, and the characters grapple with the harsh realities of wartime persecution.
Performances are scheduled for Feb. 2-4 and 9-11, 2024. Rehearsals will begin the week following Christmas.
