Jail funding vote OK’d by Webster Co. Board of Supervisors a second time

The Webster County Board of Supervisors once again confirmed its decision to call for an election on the proposed issuance of $45.5 million in general obligation bonds or general obligation capital loan notes for a new county jail facility.

The board passed its initial resolution calling for the bond issue to be added to the Nov. 7 election on July 18. On Tuesday, the board passed a second resolution to ratify and confirm the first resolution.

Webster County Sheriff Luke Fleener is asking the taxpayers of the county for $45.5 million to build a new facility for the county jail and Sheriff’s Office to replace the current aging jail.

Because of the amount of funds that the county would have to borrow to complete this project, it will have to first pass a public general obligation bond referendum, with at least 60 percent of voters casting their ballots in favor.

Starting at $4.94/week.
