Farnhamville man sentenced for federal child porn charges

FARNHAMVILLE – A Farnhamville man will spend the next 63 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.

Marcus Urelius, 36, was sentenced May 15 in United States District Court in Sioux City. In January, he pleaded guilty to possessing and sharing child pornography using an internet-based peer-to-peer network known as “Freenet” between April 2021 and January 2022.

In addition to the 63 months in federal prison, Urelius was fined $20,000 and ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to the victims.

According to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, “given his substantial net worth,” he was also ordered to pay $9,500 for the costs of his court-appointed counsel.

Urelius will also serve a five-year term of supervised release following the prison sentence.
