Iowa Central paramedic class graduates

Iowa Central Community College held its pinning ceremony for paramedic /emergency medical services graduates on Monday in the Triton Cafe on the Fort Dodge campus.

Graduates from the Class of 2023 were: Spencer Barber, Fort Dodge; Brian Egemo, Fort Dodge; Caroline Homan, Ida Grove; Xavier Nichols, Gowrie; Kasey Porter, Fort Dodge; and Chase Straw, Fort Dodge.

Paul Arens, EMS program coordinator, and Homan addressed the class before each received their paramedic pin.

The Class of 2023 spent a minimum of eight hours per week in class and 11 hours per week in clinical settings. The graduates spent a combined 3,775 hours in clinical, field and capstone shifts assessing 301 pediatric, 810 adult and 581 geriatric patients. They saw 992 medical and 314 trauma patients.

Clinical and field sites were held at Blank Children’s Hospital, Des Moines; Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Storm Lake; Cherokee Mental Health Institute, Cherokee; Fort Dodge Fire Department, Fort Dodge; Horn Memorial Hospital, Ida Grove; Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, Humboldt; Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines; Iowa Specialty Hospital, Belmond/Clarion; Sac County Ambulance, Sac City; Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge; and VanDiest Medical Center, Webster City.
