EMMETSBURG — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has launched an investigation following the death of a child in Emmetsburg.

According to the DCI, Palo Alto Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to a home in the 1600 block of Eighth Street in Emmetsburg on Jan. 19 for a report of an unresponsive child. The child was transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital before being transferred to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.

The child passed away on Tuesday and an autopsy was conducted on Wednesday at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny.

The Emmetsburg Police Department requested the DCI start an investigation on Jan. 19. The investigation is ongoing and no other details have been released.
