FDPD, FDFD search for possible bridge jumper

The Fort Dodge Police Department and Fort Dodge Fire Department spent some time Wednesday afternoon looking for a person who possibly jumped off the Karl King Bridge.

The FDPD was dispatched to the area shortly before 5 p.m. for a report of a suicidal male sitting on the side of the bridge, which is currently the site of some construction. When officers arrived, the man was not found and they learned he had stopped responding to phone calls and text messages.

The FDFD was called in to bring its boat to take onto the Des Moines River to search the area. Firefighters also searched Duck Island, which is located directly beneath the bridge.

After more than an hour of searching, no signs of the man or that anyone had jumped from the bridge were found.
