Two new Fort Dodge police officers were hired Monday evening.

The City Council hired Matthew English and Timothy Hopwood to fill two vacancies on the force.

English has an associate degree in criminal justice from Iowa Central Community College. He is a graduate of Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines.

He will start on the job on Monday.

Hopwood has been an employee of the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility since 2014. There, he serves on the Corrections Emergency Response Team and is a gang intelligence officer.

He will begin his Fort Dodge police career on Aug. 5.
