There is now a father and son team on the Fort Dodge Police Department.

Dylan Samuelson was hired by the City Council on Monday to be a police officer.

His father, Sgt. Paul Samuelson, has been a Fort Dodge officer for about five years.

Fort Dodge last had a father and son duo on the police force about 20 years ago. That’s when the late Kevin Doty, who retired as police chief, served with his son, Ryan. Ryan Doty is now a Des Moines police officer.

Dylan Samuelson was a Manson police officer until being hired by Fort Dodge. He is a graduate of Manson Northwest Webster High School who studied criminal justice at Iowa Central Community College. He graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in August 2018.
