Fort Dodge Police Department outlines Homecoming Parade route

The Fort Dodge Senior High School will hold its annual Homecoming Parade in downtown Fort Dodge on Friday, with some changes from last year.

The parade will still be held on Central Avenue, but with a different staging area to be considerate of daily traffic flow.

The staging area for the parade will be at the 900 and 1000 block of Second Avenue South. This stretch of road will be closed for all traffic beginning 3 p.m. until the start of the parade, around 4 p.m. Friday.

The pre-parade route will take parade participants from the staging area, starting at South 12th Street and Second Avenue South, to 14th Street and Central Avenue. Intersections along this route will temporarily close to allow passage for about 15 minutes, Fort Dodge police said.

The route will start on Central Avenue at its intersection with 14th Street and travel west on Central Avenue to the City Square. Traffic will be closed to Central Avenue at 15th Street. All intersections along Central Avenue will be closed to traffic during the parade, which is anticipated to start between 4 and 4:15 p.m. and last 30 to 40 minutes.

Parade goers can view the parade from the sidewalks. FDPD reminds all participants to practice social distancing, keeping at least 6 feet separation from others.

FDPD asks motorists to be aware of increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area Friday afternoon, and use alternate routes if passing through the area.
