Three new members were added to the ranks of the Fort Dodge Fire Department Monday evening.

The City Council hired Spencer Barber, Matthew Decker and Chase Straw to fill vacancies in the department.

Barber is a graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High School and Central College in Pella. He was most recently a corrections officer in the Webster County Jail.

Decker was a firefighter at the Sioux City Airport. He has Firefighter II, Emergency Medical Technician and Hazardous Materials Operations Certifications. The Iowa State University graduate is the son and grandson of Chicago firefighters.

Straw is a graduate of Independence High School and Iowa State University. In college, he was an NCAA wrestling tournament qualifier.

All three will start an orientation period today before switching to 24-hour shifts.
