Brief power outage reported in downtown Fort Dodge

A small section of Fort Dodge, mainly in the downtown area, experienced a short power outage Wednesday afternoon.

The four-minute outage began at 2:44 p.m. and affected 773 customers, according to Geoff Greenwood, media relations manager for MidAmerican Energy Co.

The boundaries of the outage were North 12th Street, the 600 block of L Street, the 1400 block of Fourth Avenue South and the 300 block of Central Avenue. The Webster County Law Enforcement Center was affected by the power outage.

According to Greenwood, the brief outage was caused when a piece of equipment that helps protect the system failed.
