City council holds budget workshop

The Fort Dodge City Council held its second budget workshop meeting on Monday evening. The council had previously held a budget workshop before its Dec. 9 meeting.

Although the fiscal year doesn’t begin until July 1, 2020, state law requires cities to have their budgets approved by mid-March, which is why the council begins the budget process in December.

On Monday night, the council heard the budget requests from the business affairs committee, the inspection and rental housing department and public works, as well as on the tax increment financing and self-supported municipal improvement district tools.
