Driver unhurt when train hits trailer

A man escaped unharmed Wednesday when a train hit the trailer hitched to the truck he was driving in a collision just west of Fort Dodge.

The collision happened at 12:02 p.m. near the 2100 mile of 200th Street.

Webster County Sheriff Jim Stubbs said Terry Stanton, of Oelwein, was driving a 2003 International truck with a trailer hitched to it. He said Stanton drove across some railroad tracks and did not see an approaching Canadian National Railway train. He said the train hit the rear wheels of the trailer.

Moorland firefighters and a Fort Dodge Fire Department ambulance responded to the collision along with sheriff’s deputies.
