Sidewalk near Warden closed for safety reason
A short section of sidewalk on the east side of Ninth Street between Central Avenue and First Avenue South has been closed due to a dangerous condition posed by an underground vault.
The sidewalk is next to the vacant Warden Plaza. That building’s basement includes areas called vaults that extend under the nearby sidewalk.
City Manager David Fierke said the vault on that side of the building has deteriorated, creating an unsafe condition on the sidewalk. There is at least one hole in the sidewalk there.
Fierke said various ways to repair the sidewalk are being considered. One option, he said, may be to put a large piece of steel over that area.
