FD council to consider civil service posts

The Fort Dodge City Council will meet Monday to handle a couple of items related to the transfer of ambulance service from UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center to the Fire Department.

The council will meet at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

The council will consider approving the civil service list of people eligible to be hired as emergency medical technicians or paramedics. The people to be hired from that list will work as EMTs or paramedics and will not be required to train as firefighters.

The council will also consider approving the civil service list for the new position of emergency medical services division supervisor.

The council will only approve the civil service lists. No one will be hired Monday.

As part of the transfer of ambulance service responsibility, city officials are creating three new firefighter/paramedic positions, one emergency medical services division supervisor position and eight EMT/paramedic positions. It is expected that current hospital employees will take the supervisor post and the EMT/paramedic positions.
