Sex trafficking investigation leads to arrests

STORM LAKE — An investigation into online underground sex trafficking has led to six arrests in Storm Lake over the weekend.

The Storm Lake Police Department announced the arrests Monday.

According to the Police Department, it started an investigation known as Operation Fall Fling into online underground sex trafficking.

“For a week’s period officers monitored and communicated via a variety of methods with individuals soliciting for sex,” investigators wrote in a written statement issued by the Police Department.

Saturday night, officers posed as prostitutes via the internet as several men allegedly arranged for meetings where the purpose was to pay for sex at a local motel.

The arrests included Demarius Daniels, 23, and Lay Htoo, 35, both of Storm Lake; Mark Halverson, 59, of Linn Grove; Dennis Ball, 38, of Spencer; Kevin Folchert, 49, of Sioux City, and William Foster, 34, of Fairmont, Texas.

All six were charged with prostitution and ordered held on $2,000 bond in the Buena Vista County Jail.
