The congregation of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge will mark the upcoming retirement of its longtime secretary and administrative assistant, Karen Musselman, with a drive-by reception Sunday afternoon.

The reception will begin at 2 p.m. at the church, 1436 21st Ave. N. The public is invited.

Musselman began working as the church secretary and administrative assistant on Aug. 29, 1993. She will retire on Jan. 1 after nearly 28 years of service.

She was instrumental in converting church records and financial data to computer files. She also updates the church’s social media.

In addition to being the secretary and administrative assistant, Musselman has been an organist for many years.

The Rev. Nicholas Thackery, the church’s pastor, compared Musselman’s vital role to that of Cpl. Radar O’Reilly, the company clerk of a fictional Army medical unit on the TV show “MASH.”

“Karen is the Radar of Good Shepherd,” he said.
