A veteran second-grade teacher at St. Edmond Elementary School will be honored on Sunday by the Diocese of Sioux City.

Candis Streit will receive the Excellence in Education Award at the Bishop’s Dinner for Catholic Schools.

She is in her 33rd year of teaching second grade.

”What I’ve wanted to do is carry on the example of the teachers I was blessed to have, and I pray in some small way I have achieved that goal,” Streit said in a written statement. ”This award is acknowledgement that their love of teaching and love of God is continuing. Sharing my faith is the true gift of teaching in a Catholic school.”

She is a graduate of St. Edmond High School. She attended Iowa Central Community College and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.

She and her husband, Dan, have one daughter and one grandson. They are members of Holy Trinity Parish in Fort Dodge.

The Excellence in Education Award is presented to a teacher who has a clear integrated philosophy of Catholic education and is a witness of their faith in both their personal and professional lives.

The Bishop’s Dinner for Catholic Schools will be at the Delta Hotels Center in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Tickets are on sale for $125 each, with $80 going to the school of the buyer’s choice.
