ROCKWELL CITY -- A Pomeroy man has been sentenced to up to 100 years in prison after a judge found he repeatedly sexually abused a child over a period of years, according to the Calhoun County Attorney's Office.

According to court documents, Jason Michael Peed, 39, must serve at least 70 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole or work release.

Peed was convicted Oct. 30 in Calhoun County District Court of continuous sexual abuse of a child and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse.

District Court Judge Kurt J. Stoebe imposed the maximum sentence on each count: up to 50 years for continuous sexual abuse of a child and up to 25 years for each count of second-degree sexual abuse. Stoebe ordered the sentences served consecutively, bringing the total maximum prison term to 100 years.

The convictions followed a trial before a judge. According to the county attorney's office, the court found Peed committed three or more acts of sexually related offenses against a child over a period of at least 30 days. The court also found he committed separate acts while the child was younger than 14.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office investigated the case, which was prosecuted by the Calhoun County Attorney's Office.
