Having a working furnace is a necessity in Iowa, and replacing one comes with a big price tag.

That is why Moeller Furnace and Air will donate a new furnace by the end of this year to a Fort Dodge resident or family that needs one, but may not be able to afford it.

The company is starting its third year of the giveaway it calls Heat for the Holidays. It is asking people to submit names of people in need.

"We are looking for nominations of people who are having financial hardships and have an aging system that they may not be able to replace otherwise," said Nate Moeller, president of the business.

"We're just looking to give back to someone who needs some help," he added.

To nominate someone, go to the business' web site, www.moellerhvac.com.

The deadline for making a nomination is Nov. 30.

Moeller said a committee at the business will read the nominations and make a selection. That committee will make its selection by Dec. 7.

"We always call the winner, " Moeller said, adding that it is an emotional moment for the person who is selected.

"Each time they've cried," he said.

He said the plan is to install the furnace in the selected individual's home during the week of Dec. 7.

Heat for the Holidays was started in 2024. Moeller Furnace and Air installed a free furnace in 2024 and in 2025.
