State Rep. Ann Meyer appeared to be well on her way to winning her fifth term in office Tuesday.

With seven of the 15 precincts in House District 8 reporting late Tuesday night, the Fort Dodge Republican had opened a wide lead over Democratic challenger Kris Williams.

Unofficial election returns released by Secretary of State Paul Pate at that point showed Meyer with 4,469 votes and Williams with 2,993 votes.

House District 8 includes Fort Dodge and eastern Webster County.

"I am grateful for the support of the Webster County voters," Meyer said. " I love doing constituent work. I look forward to working with my constituents in the future if this turns out positive."

Myer said if she is re-elected one of her first priorities will be increasing the number of in-patent beds in the mental health facilities in Cherokee and Independence.

State Rep. Wendy Larson was also opening up a big lead over her opponent, Rachel Burns late Tuesday night.

Larson, a Republican from Odebolt, was seeking her first full term representing House District 7, which includes Calhoun, Pocahontas and Sac counties plus western Webster County.

In Webster County, Larson won 902 votes to 440 votes for Burns, a Democrat from Odebolt.
