A Fort Dodge man who was arrested Wednesday night after a vehicle chase now faces a drug charge because investigators say he had a large quantity of methamphetamine.

Jeremy D. McCorley, 37, of 1001 10th Ave. S.W., now faces an additional charge of conspire with intent to manufacture/deliver methamphetamine. He had previously been charged with eluding, speed over 25 mph over the limit.

According to court documents, the 2026 Mazda McCorley drove during Wednesday's pursuit had been rented by an unnamed co-conspirator.

According to the criminal complaint filed by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, law enforcement officers learned on Monday that the co-conspirator leased the vehicle and drove to the Chicago, Illinois, area with McCorley.

On Wednesday night Iowa State Patrol troopers stopped that vehicle on U.S. Highway 20 in Webster County because they had a search warrant for it. Troopers ordered the two people in the vehicle to get out. The co-conspirator did, but McCorley did not, according to the criminal complaint. McCorley then got in the driver's seat and sped away from the traffic stop. The pursuit began at about 7:40 p.m.

McCorley exited U.S. Highway 20 onto Quail Avenue and drove north toward Fort Dodge.

Troopers reported that his vehicle's speed was over 100 mph on Quail Avenue, which has a 60 mph limit for most of its length. McCorley drove into Fort Dodge on 42nd Street and headed west on First Avenue South.

The pursuit continued on city streets until McCorley drove into a driveway at 2219 Third Ave. N. His vehicle hit the overhead door of the home's attached garage, but there did not appear to be any major damage.

The crash on Third Avenue North happened at about 8:12 p.m. McCorley got out of the car and ran away, but was caught a short time later.

Along U.S. Highway 20 near where the initial traffic stop was made, law enforcement officers found a backpack filled with "multiple pounds of purported methamphetamine," according to the criminal complaint.

McCorley made his initial court appearance on the drug charge Friday morning.

Magistrate Sarah J. Livingston ordered him to be held in jail without bond. She also scheduled a preliminary hearing for Nov. 16.
