Sand, Muhlbauer campaign in Fort Dodge

2 min read

Rob Sand and Dave Muhlbauer were back in Fort Dodge Saturday, working to motivate Democratic volunteers in the final days before the general election.

"We have a unique opportunity in front of us in Iowa," said Sand, the state auditor who is his party's nominee for governor.

"We have an open seat in the governor's office," he said. " We have a pretty unpopular president from the opposite party."

But Sand added that there is also "a tough situation."

"Everyone's hurting right now," he said. "They're paying too much for gas, too much for groceries, too much for health insurance. And folks, everyone knows who's been in charge – 10 years of one party control in Iowa."

"The folks in charge have not delivered for ordinary Iowans," Sand said.

Sand spoke briefly at about noon to roughly 30 volunteers in the Webster County Democratic Party headquarters on South Eighth Street.

He was introduced by Muhlbauer, the Crawford County supervisor who is his running mate. Sand and Muhlbauer were also in town Thursday, when they spoke to a group of about 95 people at Shiny Top Brewing, 520 Central Ave.

They face Republicans Zach Lahn and Derek Wulf in Tuesday's general election. Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds did not seek reelection this year.
