Amid all the displays in the Matt Cosgrove River's Edge Discovery Center that highlight Iowa's water is one that shows a walleye ready to latch onto a fishing lure.

And it isn't just any fishing lure – it's a Lazy Ike once made in Fort Dodge.

The colorful image was made of stained glass by Fort Dodge resident Reggie Cartee.

Cartee made the stained glass artwork sometime in the 1980s. Earlier this year he donated it to the Discovery Center.

"I like the place," Cartee said of the Discovery Center. "I think it's great."

After some time in storage, the stained glass work was recently mounted near the collection of Lazy Ike lures in the center.

Cartee said he has plenty of experience fishing for walleyes with Lazy Ike lures. He said a Lazy Ike is " real good lure."

He started working with stained glass after the wife of one of his friends said she was taking classes in the art form at the Glass Apple.

"I said, this is real interesting," Cartee recalled.

He said it took him about six weeks to make the walleye piece.

He said he has made about 100 stained glass pieces.
