A man has been charged with shooting another man Wednesday night in Webster County, according to court records.
Wade A. Nehman, 70, of 1762 Johnson Ave., was arrested by Webster County sheriff's deputies and charged with attempted murder and dominion or control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon.
In criminal complaints filed against him, deputies wrote that Nehman "did unlawfully shoot William Lyles III with the intent of killing him."
The shooting happened at 8:29 p.m. Wednesday at Lizard Creek Ranch, 1762 Johnson Ave. That is the former Rabiner Boys Ranch west of Fort Dodge.
According to the criminal complaints, Nehman and Lyles got into a physical fight. Nehman then went to his apartment, got a 9mm pistol and approached Lyles. Nehman shot Lyles once, deputies wrote in the complaints.
The initial report was that Lyles had been shot in the abdomen. He was taken by ambulance to UnityPoint Health -- Trinity Regional Medical Center. Deputies reported that he suffered a serious injury.
Nehman was arrested at Lizard Creek Ranch about a half hour after the shooting.
He made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Friday morning. Magistrate Sarah J. Livingston ordered him held in jail without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 19.
The management of Lizard Creek Ranch released this statement about the shooting: "Our hearts go out to everyone directly affected, as well as their families, friends and everyone who has been shaken by what happened.
"We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and will continue to do everything we can to assist them. Out of respect for those involved and their families, we will not speculate or share details while the investigation is ongoing.
"We know there are questions, and we understand the concern this has caused within our community. We simply ask for patience, compassion and respect as the appropriate people work through the situation. This was an isolated incident and safety for our guests is always our top priority."
