A bill U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst wrote to encourage domestic manufacturing was signed into law by President Donald Trump.

It is called the Critical Infrastructure Manufacturing Feasibility Act. It directs the Commerce Department to examine critical products currently imported and to identify opportunities to make those items in the United States.

"When it comes to our national security we cannot afford to depend on foreign adversaries for the critical goods that keep America running," Ernst, a Republican, said in a written statement. "Iowa has the talent, expertise and resources to help bring critical manufacturing back to America. This is an important step toward securing our supply chains, strengthen our national security and bring more opportunities to rural America."

U.S. Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Delaware, was the co-sponsor of the bill.

It was the second piece of legislation from Ernst Trump has signed recently. He previously signed her Billion Dollar Boon Doggle Act which requires that massive federal budget overruns be made public.
