Gabe Pettit, Ryan Kent and Brennan Fehr, local Edward Jones financial advisors, are using their offices as drop-off locations for nonperishable items that will be sent to U.S. troops overseas.
Local residents may help U.S. military personnel by bringing in nonperishable items they would like to donate. The items may be dropped off at 517 Central Ave. and 1411 First Ave. S., Fort Dodge, during regular business hours through Nov. 2.
Edward Jones branch offices may not accept monetary donations or contributions. Monetary donations include gift cards, cash, checks, or electronic payments.
Items the Edward Jones branch offices are collecting include: individual cold drink mix packets, Slim Jims or beef jerky, nuts (20 ounces or less), granola bars, individually wrapped mints, coffee singles, mouthwash (500 milliliters or less), razors, eye drops and nasal spray.
The collection is part of a larger effort by Edward Jones financial advisers from across northwest Iowa. It was started in 2012 by Mark Frakes, the financial advisor in Forest City.
In the first year, 56 boxes were shipped. Since then more than 2,000 boxes have been shipped.
Items collected at the offices of financial advisers will be moved to a central location, usually in Forest City, where the boxes for individual soldiers, sailors, airmen, guardians and Marines will be packed.
