Webster City FFA chapter receives national FFA honor

WEBSTER CITY -- The Webster City FFA chapter has been recognized in the 2026 National Chapter Award Program from the National FFA Organization.
It was given a three-star ranking. Less than 10 percent of chapters nationwide are given a ranking from the National FFA Organization.
“The kids' application had to place in the top 10 percent of chapters in Iowa to advance to nationals, then at nationals all applications get one, two, or three stars with three being the highest,” said Kurt Veldhuizen, one of the group’s advisors.
“So 10 percent of chapters across the country are recognized as National Star chapters, but that 10 percent is evenly split up by 1/3rd for each star level,” he added. ” So, in theory, our chapter is more like the top 3 percent. In my 20 plus years of WC FFA applying for National Chapter Awards, this is just the second time we have ever made the top three star level."
The program recognizes outstanding FFA chapters from throughout the country that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization. These chapters improve chapter operations using the National Quality FFA Chapter Standards and a Program of Activities that emphasizes growing leaders, building communities and strengthening agriculture. Chapters are rewarded for providing educational experiences for the entire membership.
Chapters that received star ratings during judging this summer will be recognized at the 99th National FFA Convention & Expo, Oct .21-24.

The National FFA Organization is a school-based national youth leadership development organization of more than 1,053,847 student members as part of 9,591 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
