More work on the Third Avenue Northwest corridor and a loan to pay for water system improvements are on the agenda for the Fort Dodge City Council tonight.
The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.
Work is underway on the reconstruction of several blocks of Third Avenue Northwest. A contract the council will consider awarding tonight would provide the finishing details to the project.
The contract includes storm sewer and water main improvements, construction of 1,100 feet of dual use path, tree plantings, lighting and installation of benches.
Doyle Construction, of Fort Dodge, has submitted the apparent low bid of about $1 million.
The city received $1.5 million from the state's Comprehensive Neighborhood Revitalization Program to pay for the work.
Also, tonight the council will consider a $4,596,000 low interest loan from the state to pay for improvements to the water system. The loan will have a 3 percent interest rate and will be paid off over 20 years. Money from the $5 per month community water initiative fee will be used to pay off the debt.
A change in zoning regulations, prompted by a new state law, will also be considered. The change affects applications to the Board of Adjustment which have to do with dimensions and sizes of buildings or properties. The change would lower the standard an applicant would have to meet to get a zoning variance in situations where size or dimensions are the only issue.
