A new bridge will enable the already extensive trail system at the Gypsum City OHV Park to grow even more.
Getting the bridge in place will make it possible to expand the trail system to the southeast corner of the park, according to the state Department of Natural Resources and Webster County Conservation.
The bridge will be a 100-foot long pre-manufactured steel structure over a ravine. It will have an eight-foot wide concrete deck that OHVs will travel on.
The Iowa Natural Resources Commission hired Dixon Construction, of Correctionville, to install the bridge at a cost of $345,184.
The work is to be done by Sept. 15, 2027.
Most of the money to pay for the bridge, 72 percent, will come from the state's ATV fund, which gets its money from off-highway vehicle registration fees. The remaining 28 percent of the money will come from a federal recreational trail grant.
Peterson Contractors Inc., of Reinbeck, submitted the only other bid of $398,452.
Gypsum City OHV Park, located at 2390 Mill Road south of Fort Dodge, is the biggest facility of its kind in Iowa. It has 60 miles of trails, a 1.5 mile motocross track, a kids track, a beginner circle track and a campground with a play area.
