It honors late college board president

A new endowed scholarship at Iowa Central Community College will honor the life and legacy of Mark Crimmins, a longtime community leader, Iowa Central supporter, and former president of the Iowa Central Community College Board of Directors.
The Mark Crimmins Endowed Scholarship was established through a generous gift from Dale and Terri Jensen.
The scholarship will provide financial assistance to Iowa Central students for tuition, fees, or program supplies, and the Iowa Central Community College president will select recipients at their discretion.
"Mark cared deeply about this community and about Iowa Central," said Dr. Jesse Ulrich, president of Iowa Central Community College. "He gave his time, his experience and his leadership to the college, and he always wanted to see Iowa Central and its students succeed. It is meaningful to see his name connected to a scholarship that will help students who need it most."
Crimmins was elected to the college board in November 1994 and served for 31 years until his death on July 20 at age 64. He was the board president for much of that time.
He served as Fort Dodge city attorney since 2011, while also maintaining his private law practice.
For the Jensens, establishing the scholarship is a way to recognize Crimmins and continue something he valued: giving people opportunities to build a better life.
The endowed scholarship allows the fund to remain in place and provide student support for years to come. The Jensens hope others who knew and respected Crimmins will consider contributing to the Mark Crimmins Endowed Scholarship. Additional gifts can help grow the endowment and increase the scholarship support available to Iowa Central students in need.
"We are grateful to Dale and Terri for taking the first step in establishing this scholarship," Ulrich said. "Mark believed in this community and in giving people an opportunity to succeed. We hope others who knew Mark or worked with him will consider adding to the fund. The greatest way we can honor someone is to continue the things they believed in. Mark believed in this community and in giving people an opportunity to succeed, and this scholarship will help do just that."
