County receives additional Destination Iowa funding
Supervisors provide funding for Heart of Iowa Regional Housing

A recent visit from Gov. Kim Reynolds has led to Webster County and Fort Dodge being given an additional $400,000 in Destination Iowa funds.
"When the governor was here and touring projects, she noted the work happening currently with the city's restroom and shelter project," said Webster County Conservation Director Matt Cosgrove. "The city was able to secure an additional $400,000 that they have just put underneath our Destination Iowa grant since it's still open until the end of the year."
Cosgrove told the Webster County Supervisors about the funding on Tuesday at their regularly scheduled meeting.
"They are in the process of getting the shelter completed and the parking lot done," said Cosgrove. "The county would receive the additional $400,000 and then that would be turned over to the city for payment."
Webster County originally received a $4 million grant award from Destination Iowa. This funding will add an additional $400,000 to that award and must be closed out by Nov. 15.
The City Council accepted the money during its Aug. 10 meeting.
On Tuesday, the supervisors also signed a letter of commitment to provide $12,500 in funding to the Heart of Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund, which provides financial assistance for home repairs and rehabilitation to low-to-moderate-income, owner-occupied households throughout a six-county region, including Webster County, in Iowa. The funding has been provided in previous years by the supervisors and is part of the regularly approved budget.
The supervisors also approved low bids from TruTemp to install a new mini split unit in both the second floor server room and the basement server room of the Yell BUilding. The low bids of $5,345 and $6,132 were approved. Two dehumidifier units for the server rooms were also approved from TruTemp for $6,930.
According to Joe Hanson, system administrator for Webster County's MIS department, both server rooms get very hot and humid due to the amount of equipment that is running and need to be cooled.
"We did expect a good chunk of money needing to be spent on the Yell Building this year," said Webster County Auditor Krystal Lloyd.
The supervisors also approved the purchase of two police pursuit vehicles from Kemna of Fort Dodge – a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe at Iowa's state's bid price of $55,240.20, and a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 at a state bid price of $34,847.66, after a trade-in allowance of $19,500 for a 2022 Dodge Ram Truck. The total price for the vehicles was $90,087.86 which is part of the Sheriff's Office's new vehicle budget.
