Neven Conrad will once again be a regular presence at Fort Dodge City Council meetings.
The former councilman was appointed city attorney Monday evening by a unanimous vote of the council.
"Welcome back Neven," Mayor Dave Flattery said. "Glad to have you."
He replaces Mark Crimmins, who died July 20.
Conrad was an at-large member of the council from 2016 until Oct. 11, 2022. He resigned on that date because he was appointed to be the Humboldt County magistrate, and the rules of judicial conduct prohibit any magistrate from holding an elected office.
He is a graduate of St. Edmond High School. He earned his associate degree from Iowa Central Community College and his bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. He earned his law degree from Drake University in Des Moines in 2013.
He began his legal career with Baker, Johnsen, Sandblom & Lemmenes in Humboldt. He became a partner in 2018, and the name of the firm was changed to Conrad & Lemmenes. In 2022, he established the Conrad Law Firm.
Away from work, he is a member of the Fort Dodge Baseball Association, the UnityPoint Health -- Fort Dodge Board of Directors, and the Pleasant Valley Awareness Committee. He served on the Fort Dodge RAGBRAI Executive Committee. He is a caretaker of Patterson Field, a baseball park south of the city.
Conrad and his wife, Cari, have five children.
After Conrad resigned from the council, former Councilman Andy Fritz was appointed to fill the vacancy. However, a citizens' petition triggered a special election. Councilwoman Megan Secor won the February 2023 special election and then won a full four-year term in the November 2023 regular election.
