Cancer care input wanted from residents

UnityPoint Health -- Fort Dodge is inviting Webster County residents to share their experiences and ideas during a Virtual Community Cancer Forum from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 16.
The virtual forum will bring together community members who have been touched by cancer, as patients, survivors, caregivers, family members or friends, as well as others who care about the health and well-being of the Webster County community.
The discussion will focus on understanding what individuals and families experience throughout the cancer journey, from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. Participants will also have an opportunity to discuss access to care, emotional well-being, family support and other challenges or opportunities related to cancer care in the community.
"Listening to the experiences and perspectives of people in our community is an important part of understanding how we can improve cancer health and care close to home," said Jennifer Crimmins, vice president of clinic operations for UnityPoint Health -- Fort Dodge.
"We want to understand what people need to stay healthy, what may prevent them from getting recommended screenings and where they may face challenges when cancer is diagnosed," she said. "By listening to our community, we can better focus our efforts on education, prevention and early detection, while also strengthening treatment and support for those facing cancer."
The community forum will help identify opportunities to strengthen cancer-related resources, support services, education and care for people in Webster County and across the region.
"Cancer affects individuals and families in many different ways, and every community has unique needs," said Crimmins. "This forum is an opportunity for residents to share what they are experiencing, ask questions and help us identify ways we can make cancer prevention, screening and care more accessible and understandable for everyone in our community."
Community members are encouraged to participate whether they have personally experienced cancer or have supported a loved one through their cancer journey. No medical or health care background is required.
The Virtual Community Cancer Forum will be held from noon to 1 p.m.
