Area bicyclists are invited to hit the trails Saturday for a special ride that will raise money for future trail improvements.
The Prairie Rivers Trail Ride will offer a chance for bicyclists to pedal their way through up to 35 miles of Webster County trails.
The ride will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Salty Suz, 512 Central Ave. and conclude that afternoon at O'Goodies, 16 N. Seventh St.
"I think the best part is just coming together as bicyclists and as a community," said Jeff Halter, an organizer of the ride.
The Prairie Rivers Trail Ride has been held since 2019, and since that time it has raised about $70,000 for various groups and causes.
Halter said Saturday's ride is in honor of the late Joan Meyer, a Twin Lakes woman who was an avid cyclist and leader of a RAGBRAI team. Meyer died Jan. 29.
The money generated by the ride will be deposited in an account maintained by the Fort Dodge Community Foundation to pay for trail improvements and future trails.
People can register for the ride from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Salty Suz and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., also at Salty Suz. There is a $35 registration fee.
The ride will start at 10 a.m. Halter said there will be a couple of different route options, depending on how far a bicyclist wants to go. For example, one route will go to Badger and back while another will go to Soldier Creek Winery, 1584 Paragon Ave., and back. Routes of 10 miles, 20 miles and 35 miles will be available.
The ride annually attracts between 75 and 150 people.
A post race party will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at O'Goodies.
