A Fort Dodge woman who police say was drunk faces multiple criminal charges after getting into a struggle with officers and security guards early Thursday morning at UnityPoint Health -- Trinity Regional Medical Center.
She is accused of punching, scratching, kicking and biting the officers and guards.
Jesseca M. Montenegro, 33, 430 Ave. G, was arrested by Fort Dodge police and charged with:
• Assault on persons in certain occupations, intent of injury
• Assault on persons in certain occupations, bodily injury
• Two counts of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness
• Public intoxication
In criminal complaints filed against her, officers wrote that the situation began at about 2 a.m. Thursday when they encountered Montenegro in a parking lot in the 10 block of North 10th Street. The officers described her as showing signs of intoxication. After they worked unsuccessfully with her for about 40 minutes to help her get a ride home, the officers took her into custody for the public intoxication charge.
She was then taken to the hospital emergency room. Court records do not indicate why she was taken there, but it is common for officers to take intoxicated suspects there to be checked out before booking them into jail.
At the hospital, Montenegro became aggressive. The criminal complaints indicate that she punched one officer on the top of his head, scratched the arm of another, kicked a security guard in the face and bit another guard on the arm.
Montenegro made her initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court later Thursday morning.
Magistrate Sarah J. Livingston set bond at $17,000 cash only.
She scheduled a preliminary hearing on the assault charges for Aug. 21. Court action on the less serious offense of public intoxication was postponed for 180 days.
