A special alumni art exhibition will begin Sept. 3 at the Iowa Central Art and Technology Gallery in Fort Dodge at the Iowa Central Community College campus.
Maureen Seamonds, Rusty Farrington and Richard Hanson were instructors for Iowa Central Community College, providing art instruction between the years of 1980 and 2018. They are working together to set up a Roots & Return Art Exhibition of their students who have been creating over the last 40 years.
Seamonds is the owner of The Produce Station Pottery in Webster City.
“There are good, creative human beings who are making creations all over the world,” she said. “I wanted them to get some attention.”
This is the only time they have done an alumni event at this level, reaching back to students from as long ago as the 1980s.
The exhibition will begin on Sept. 3 and will continue until Oct. 31. A special reception and alumni gathering will be held on Sept. 24.
Some artists have been contacted directly, but Seamonds said they don’t know how to reach everyone that studied at Iowa Central.
“We’ve been inviting people by phone,” she said, but there are more that they can’t locate.
Each artist can submit one to five works, and need to include a title, media type, dimension, photo of artwork and price if for sale. Information on the artist is also requested, including the years they attended Iowa Central, a personal biography and a favorite Iowa Central memory.
The exhibition is dedicated to the students who discovered their creative voices at Iowa Central Community College and to the faculty who encouraged them to pursue those voices wherever life would lead them.
Items for the exhibition can be hand delivered Monday through Friday during regular business hours, or contact Seamonds at 515-835-0497 to make arrangements with staff on site.
Items for the exhibit will also be accepted by shipping them to Iowa Central Community College, Art and Technology Building, 1 Triton Circle, Fort Dodge, IA 50501.
The deadline for entries to be submitted is Aug. 31.
