Area residents are invited to enjoy an all-American meal of hot dogs and corn on the cob to support a fund dedicated to helping local veterans.
The Beers and Ears benefit will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Post 1856, 518 S. 29th St.
The cost is $20. For that price, each person will get a quarter-pound hot dog, two ears of Grimes peaches and cream sweet corn and a commemorative stein.
All proceeds will go to the Veterans Needs Fund, according to Mike Larson, a spokesman for the Fort Dodge Veterans Council. He said that fund will be managed by the Veterans Council to support local veterans.
"This is about veterans helping veterans to help them fill in financial gaps for the short-term," Larson said.
He said the money will be for local veterans who were impacted by a natural disaster, experienced extraordinary medical bills or had a death in the family.
He said requests for help from the fund will be reviewed by a board consisting of local veterans.
