Bayard man faces felony assault charges

A Bayard man is behind bars after he allegedly stabbed a Fort Dodge teenager Saturday night.

David J. Richman, 45, is charged with assault causing serious injury after officers say he stabbed Dawson D. Skoland Rattray, 18, outside the Star Convenience Store, 1601 Fifth Ave. S., around 10:55 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Fort Dodge Police Department, officers found Skoland Rattray suffering from a laceration to his right arm. Witnesses on scene stated that Richman fled the scene. Skoland Rattray was transported by ambulance and later airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. According to police, his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Officers later found and detained Richman without incident.

According to the Fort Dodge Police Department, the incident remains under investigation.

The Fort Dodge Police Department was assisted by the Webster County Sheriff's Office and the Fort Dodge Fire Department.
