A Fort Dodge man who threatened a woman with a knife and held her in her own apartment against her will early Sunday morning faces a long list of criminal charges, court records indicate.
Kevin D. Garvin, 27, of 903 Eighth St. S.W., was arrested by Fort Dodge police and was charged with:
• Violation of parole.
• First-degree robbery.
• Willful injury causing bodily injury.
• First-degree harassment.
• Assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.
• False imprisonment.
• Obstruction of emergency communications.
The incident happened between midnight and 4:37 a.m. Sunday at 1028 Williams Drive, according to the criminal complaints filed against him.
Police reported that Garvin threatened to kill the woman with a kitchen knife and stabbed the bed next to the victim.
He also stole something from the woman, police reported.
During the incident, he confined her to a room in the apartment and prevented her from calling for help.
Garvin made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Monday morning.
Magistrate Sarah J. Livingston ordered him held in jail on a $35,000 cash-only bond. She also issued an order prohibiting Garvin from contacting the woman.
A preliminary hearing on the first-degree robbery, willful injury causing bodily injury, first-degree harassment, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and false imprisonment charges was set for Aug. 27.
The charge of violation of parole was transferred to the Iowa Board of Parole.
Action on the less serious offense of obstruction of emergency communications was continued for 180 days.
