The Webster County Board of Supervisors will appoint a new county auditor later this month, and residents interested in the job have until Friday to apply.
The vacancy follows the resignation of Auditor Shaunna Abrams, who submitted her resignation letter July 10, giving the board seven days' notice.
The supervisors will meet at 10 a.m. July 28 to make the appointment, according to a notice issued Thursday by board Chair Austin Hayek. Whoever is selected will serve on an interim basis, holding the office until a candidate is elected in the Nov. 3 general election, under the state law which allows counties to fill certain vacancies by appointment.
"We will be diligent and thorough in reviewing every application to ensure we select the best person to serve Webster County and position our county for continued success moving forward for this vital position," Hayek said.
Applicants must submit a cover letter and resume to the Webster County Auditor's Office by 4 p.m. Friday. Materials can be emailed to auditor@webstercountyia.gov, mailed to 701 Central Ave., Fort Dodge, IA 50501, or dropped off at the auditor's office on the second floor of the Webster County Courthouse.
Residents who want to appear on the November ballot must follow a separate process. Candidates can file paperwork as outlined Iowa Code Chapters 43, 44 or 45 by Aug. 26.
